Work done by the legal profession on a pro bono basis means work done "for the public good". The Pro Bono Scheme co-ordinates legal assistance and representation, where appropriate, for people who satisfy the means and merit criteria of the Scheme. People who cannot afford a private solicitor and cannot get legal aid may benefit from this Scheme. A referral to a Pro bono solicitor may be provided without charge or for a reduced fee to those who qualify.
